Tamanegi Budo Kai

The Tamanegi Budo Kai, formerly the Tamanegi Do Martial Arts Association, is a group of independent instructors networking with the leadership of Tamanegi Do through their long term affiliation or association with the Atarashii Budo Shu Kai.

Each autonomous instructor is a proud participating member of the TBK adhering fully to the principles set forth by this Warrior Association

TBK – CODE OF ETHICS 

The martial arts instructor member of the Tamanegi Budo Kai or TBK recognizes the importance of the martial arts for activities in sport, recreation, public service, education, defensive application, research and commercial purposes and the necessity of preparing students with the knowledge and skill necessary to engage in the martial arts with safety. 

The TBK instructor recognizes the right of mature persons with requisite skills and physical capacity to receive instruction without discrimination as to race, sex or creed, and pledges to practice the profession according to the highest ethical standards. 

The TBK instructor acknowledges the nature of the responsibilities of instructing students in the martial arts and exposing them to a potentially hazardous environment and is committed to improving safe martial arts instruction. 

The TBK instructor recognizes the right of mature persons with requisite skills and physical capacity to receive instruction without discrimination as to race, sex or creed, and pledges to practice the profession according to the highest ethical standards.

The TBK instructor acknowledges the nature of the responsibilities of instructing students in the martial arts and exposing them to a potentially hazardous environment and is committed to improving safe martial arts instruction.

TAMANEGI BUDO KAI – COMMITMENT TO THE STUDENT

The TBK instructor’s first duty is to the safety of all students. Success is measured by the progress of each student toward attaining the skills, acquiring the knowledge and forming the habits essential to safely engage in the martial arts. 

The instructor is obligated to stimulate the acquisition of knowledge, understanding, physical skills and fitness and the formulation of safe personal martial arts practices. The TBK instructor is pledged to promote Safety Through Education.

In fulfilling this obligation, the instructor shall: 

– Expose the student to varying points of view and technical theories. 

– Instruct in all subject matter for which s/he bears responsibility, as prescribed by established standards. 

– Present techniques, kihons, and kata of various styles in a fair and impartial manner without degradation, but the instructor is free to express honest opinions consistent with personal experience. 

– Assure the safety of ALL students. 

– Personally follow all safe martial arts principles, recognizing that influence by example is the cornerstone to the development and promotion of safe martial arts practices. 

– Instruct objectively, without favoritism or granting special advantage, and not expose the student to prejudice, embarrassment or disparagement. 

– Enroll and instruct any student physically and psychologically qualified and not engage in any discriminatory practice or procedure. 

– Maintain a level of physical, educational and professional competence equal to standards established by this Martial Arts Association. 

– Conduct all training sessions personally or arrange for them to be conducted by a designated subject matter expert, qualified sensei or kyosei. 

– Certify only those students who have satisfactorily passed their established standards of proficiency. 

– Instruct in conformity with their established standards empowering their students’ performance to enhance recognition by their Tamanegi Budo Kai

– Fully disclose to the prospective student all reasonably anticipated costs, charges and assessments before enrollment or obligation is established. 

TAMANEGI BUDO KAI – COMMITMENT TO THE PUBLIC       

The Tamanegi Budo Kai instructor is responsible for the support and development of sound public policy relating to martial arts education and for the promotion and encouragement of programs and policies directed at martial art use and training. In fulfilling this obligation to the public, the TBK instructor shall: 

– Through their TBK board membership, they shall participate in the implementation of sound educational and practical policies. 

– Keep informed of developments in martial arts equipment, techniques, procedures, technology, and education. 

– Officially represents TBK to the press and public only when specifically authorized, and shall reveal as personal views those which differ from the positions of the Tamanegi Budo Kai. 

TBK – COMMITMENT TO THE MARTIAL PROFESSION       

The Tamanegi Budo Kai instructor recognizes the quality of his service influences the attitudes of other martial artists, the public in general and governmental bodies.

The TBK instructor pledges to:

  • Serve diligently as a member of their TBK board
  • Raise professional standards
  • Improve instructor services
  • Encourage qualified and interested persons in pursuing the profession
  • Contribute actively to the support, planning, and programs of the TBK

In fulfilling their obligation to the profession, the TBK instructors: 

– Instruct in conformity with course standards established by their Tamanegi Budo Kai, as amended and supplemented. 

– Accord just and equitable treatment to all members of the TBK. 

– Participate in a professional inquiry if and when requested by TBK. 

– Accurately represent their professional qualifications. 

– When requested by the TBK or the ABSK, for good cause, accurately evaluate performance, standardizations, and qualifications of other instructors.

TBK – COMMITMENT TO PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS

The Tamanegi Budo Kai instructor regards their professional standards as a pledge to be executed in spirit and fact in a manner consistent with their quality instruction. 

The TBK instructor recognizes that sound professional relationships with their community are built upon integrity, dignity and mutual respect. 

The TBK instructor shall not conduct or participate in any course where unqualified persons are utilized in martial arts instruction or engage in any course of instruction that is in derogation of commitments to their students, their community, the profession or this Association. 

In fulfilling their professional obligations, the TBK instructor shall: 

– Only apply for certification and sanction on the basis of professional qualification. 

– Give prompt notice to their students and community of any change in the availability of service or instructors’ status. 

– Adhere to the terms of their TBK board agreement, unless these terms have been legally terminated, falsely represented or substantially altered or there has been a default in performance. 

– Not delegate assigned tasks to unqualified personnel. 

TAMANEGI BUDO KAI – COMMITMENT TO THE ASSOCIATION  

The TBK instructor, by virtue of his voluntary membership in TBK, recognizes the responsibility and obligation to promote the Association and support the official decisions and policies of their TBK. 

In fulfilling this obligation to the Association, the TBK instructor shall: 

– Publicly support the TBK, its leadership, its instructors and its martial artists. 

– Bear in mind that TBK is unique in the worldwide martial arts industry, in that it is a truly traditional organization of independent instructors with supportive yodansha leadership which is directly appointed by the Doshi Shodai based on qualification.

This structure is the best possible mechanism for ensuring that technical activity meets the needs of its members, and every member instructor has a real opportunity to grow and lead his dojo to the highest level. 

– Make every effort to bring about positive change in a professional manner by direct personal contact with those fellow members who are in positions of authority and responsibility. 

Prior to becoming a TBK associated school, the school owner and chief instructor must renew inactive status and obtain liability insurance in lieu of other proof of financial responsibility. The associated school is specifically responsible for obtaining documentation of such status and insurance prior to initiating any instruction as a TBK member. 

VIOLATIONS OF THE TAMANEGI BUDO KAI – CODE OF ETHICS 

  1. In order to maintain the highest standards of professional conduct, the Yodansha board of the TBK shall have the power to censure, suspend or revoke certification or membership of any TBK associate or impose any other discipline, sanction, supervision or probation.
  2. The Yodansha may review and, with good cause, reinstate a suspended or expelled associate. The Yodansha may appoint Ethics Committees to hear complaints regarding alleged violations of this Code of Ethics and to recommend a course of action to the Yodansha board.
